What is the problem you found?

I have come up with 4 theories that illustrate the impact of COVID-19 on the food supply chain:

· Downstream Food Supply Chain Will Face an Irreversible Impact

· Rise in Prices of Food Products

· Direct Impact on the Source of Food Production

· Economic Impact

What is your opportunity?

How might we fix the disruption of food and supply chain?

By fixing this, it will enable the consumers to get uninterrupted food delivery. Also, farmers will be able to continue to sell their food products.

Even in recent news, there are price increases for the food products. It's all due to less supply and more demand issue. Our solution can address this issue.

This is an unexplored market in Canada. We will have the first mover advantage if things work as expected. Amazon is currently working to test drone delivery in US. Based on the current setup of their structure, it is unlikely that they will work with local farmers. They will focus on their inventory to be delivered to consumers. But our solution has 2 parts:

1. Finding nearby farmers based on user's location.
2. Drone delivery of items from source to destination location.

Who is your audience?

1. Consumers will get uninterrupted food delivery
2. Farmers will get to sell their food products without wasting them

What Is Your Solution?

I have always wanted to find a solution to UN sustainability goals and brainstorm on the ideas. Adding fuel to the fire, this COVID-19 has made the food availability very hard to everyone. The primary question of not risking human life to get food reach everyone leaves us with a solution of TECHNOLOGY. Hence we came up with this solution.

I took an approach of BREAK THE COMPLEX PROBLEM INTO SMALLER PARTS. First, we came up with an idea of Farmer's Friendz app creation to connect farmers and Consumers. Then we moved on to find solutions to eliminate the Distribution issue. Hence we came up with Drone Delivery.

I verified if the following real time data is available. Fortunately, below are the datasets which are useful for our solution:

o Weather Data- NASA Real time data -https://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/weather_prediction/GEOS-CF/data_access/

o Aircraft Data- NASA Real Time Mission Monitor (RTMM) Datasets https://ghrc.nsstc.nasa.gov/uso/ds_docs/rtmm/rtmm_dataset.html

My solution is to connect technology and humans to fight the virus that will address all the above impacts.

1. Creating an app to connect Local farmers and Consumers even for the one's with minimal technical knowledge- android/iOS mobile phones..

2. Get the local farmers information into the application.

3. When consumers login to the app, suggestions based on the local farmer's locations are displayed.

4. Encourage Consumers to pick up for neighbourhood for a small reward.

5. Or choose DRONE DELIVERY- Yes you heard it right, with certain conditions:

a. Weather being satisfactory

b. Distance of Delivery

c. Minimal Purchase order

d. Maximum weight limit

6. When the customer selects Drone Delivery, Flight Management System connects to the data sources to verify the following:

a. Weather Data- NASA Real time data -https://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/weather_prediction/GEOS-CF/data_access/

b. Aircraft Data- NASA Real Time Mission Monitor (RTMM) Datasets https://ghrc.nsstc.nasa.gov/uso/ds_docs/rtmm/rtmm_dataset.html)

7. Once everything is clear and the distance condition is satisfied, it accepts the order and delivers it doorstep.

Assumptions made:

  • There are several companies who manufacture commercial drones.
  • Terms and FAA agreements are signed and approved

This will help connect the gaps by using latest technology.

My prototype solution is present in the google sites link below. I am trying to develop a real mobile app.
